Our Day to Remember

Two years ago my sweet Jimmy became my one and only forever. As we talked about our special day I can't help but swell with the warmest and best feeling I have ever felt in my whole life. I can't even wonder what my life would be like without this man. Thank you to my husband for the patience and understanding you bring to our ever growing marriage.

August 11, 2011 Salt Lake City Temple

The perfect day.

My stud.

Our reception in Idaho on August 5, 2011 started with a lightning and rain storm. I learned to dance in the rain and just go with the flow. It all does not matter as long as I have the one standing next to me.

The reception was in a wheat field.

Our beach cake.

The groom's cake was a success. Now this Hostess "cake" would be pretty expensive and rare. :) Even with "The Sweetest Comeback in the History of Ever."

I love you Jimmy.

Spiral Chenille Blanket

When I was buying this fabric I had an exhilarating experience involving a fainting woman. I was getting ready to have my fabric cut out and overheard a woman talking to some employees and saying her foot was hurting due to a  "do it yourself" cabinet falling out of a box and landing on her foot. I went over and told her I was a nurse and asked if I could help and if she was bleeding. She was not bleeding thankfully, however there was multiple blue and purple bruising presenting. I asked her if she had diabetes or low blood pressure. She admitted to the low blood pressure and I asked an employee for a chair for her to sit on. Thank goodness another employee and I were on opposite sides of each other because right then and there she fell to the ground and passed out. Long story short, if your husband EVER gives you a hard time about shopping for fabric you tell him you could save a life. ;)

This is my new inspiration and design of the Chenille blanket. I created a Spiral effect.

What you will need:
3 layers of fabric 1 1/2 yards each
fabric for backing and boarder 2 yards
Thread
Safety pins

First choose the fabric that you want on top. Start by finding the center of the fabric and creating a spiral approximately 1/2 inch space.

Continue to draw keeping the 1/2 in space between lines.

Lay the backing face down. Cut the extra 1/2 yard off to use for the boarder.

Lay the first layer facing up, smoothing out all bumps.

Lay the 2nd layer face up on top of the first layer.

Lastly lay the 3rd layer face up on the 2nd layer. This is the fabric that has the spiral drawn on it.

Next pin all the layers together so as to keep the fabric from sliding and shifting out of place.

Start by sewing in the middle which create a more even layout of the fabric.

Once the spiral has completed by stopping at an edge, continue round edges to complete the spiral look.

The bottom of the blanket.

Close up of the top.

Use a cutting board to cut the excess fabric.

Cut the 2nd and 3rd layer of fabric leaving the 1st layer intact.

After the blanket is completely cut, cut 2 in strips for the border of the blanket. Here is my tutorial at       Baby Time of how to attach a border.

After completing the binding of the border the blanket needs to be washed to loosen the threads and create a soft chenille feel. I used cotton for this blanket but flannel would work really well.

Here is the finished project. Happy Spiral sewing. Remember you could help someone by shopping for fabric. ;)

Paris in the Spring

No unfortunately I have never been to Paris, however we can imagine the blossoms are singing sweet french music.

I designed and made this dress out of fabric that I bought at an Italian Market. It is very basic.

I took matching rectangles and sewed them together. I cut a slit for my head and hemmed the collar. I took the front and sewed a small section in the back together, about 8 in.

I took the back section and sewed the sides to the front section sides. The excess fabric in the back I gathered into pleats. I used a belt to create a natural waistline.

Here is my Handsome Prince. Love this man.

Happy Sewing. Be creative and try something new and crazy.

Pillows and Puppy Chow

I was catching up on a missed TV show via the internet. As I was sitting on the floor cutting out the pillow pattern one of the 45 second commercials came on. The commercial advertised delicious organic meat of selected satisfaction. My stomach started growling and looking up to the advertisement I realized it was for premium puppy chow.

My couch has been very lonely and bare. Pillows are a great accessory and color pop for a boring tan couch.

Need 1 yard to make 2 pillows 18 inches wide.
fabric for the actual pillow
pillow stuffing

Cut the desired size. You will be folding to make an envelope style pillow.

I used an already pillow to decide how big I would like the pillow to be.

Tri-fold

fold the edges and iron.

Sew edges.

First, lay the side you want to be showing when you pull the pillow right side out.

Fold other side and pin.

Sew the sides.

Pull pillow right side out.

Take the completed pillow case and measure for the actual pillow inside. The fabric does not need to be really pretty because you will not even see it. I am using a sheet that was never used because it was just way to silky to sleep with.

Pin the edges.

Sew around the outside except for a 5 inch gap. Pull the pillow right side out and stuff.

Pin the opening.

Sew the opening shut. Again you will not see this because you will put the pillow in the envelope casing. Sew  the amount of pillows and envelope casing as desired.

Found the coral pillows at Ross dress for less for $3 each. Can't beat a good deal.

Total cost of 7 pillows $8.
Happy sewing.
